7 Facts about Driving in Ireland
1. The drink driving limit in Ireland is 50mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood, however for “specified drivers” including learner and novice drivers, a lower limit of 20mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood applies.
2. It is illegal to drive and use a mobile phone. If caught, you’ll have to pay €80 and receive 3 penalty points on your licence.
3. Speed limits and modern road signs are designated in kilometres per hour (km/h).
4. Seat belts are compulsory for front and rear seat passengers.
5. Horns are not to be used between 11.30pm and 7am.
6. The minimum age for driving a car in Ireland, providing you hold a full Irish / UK licence is 17.
